Ritter’s Diner
Our Story
That was the same year that two Velisaris brothers emigrated to Pittsburgh, through Ellis Island, from a tiny village in Greece called Vlachokerasia. A picture of this village is in our skylight room. These two brothers were later joined by two more and the family acquired Ritter’s Diner in 1966. Since that humble beginning, it has become a prosperous Pittsburgh icon, catering to the likes of many national athletes and celebrities, as well as countless faithful locals and Oakland-area students over the years. In 1975, the location was moved to the current facility, a diner constructed by Fodero Dining Car in New Jersey, and transported to Pittsburgh in two pieces. The “skylight” room was added in 1984. We have always been proud of our Greek heritage and try to infuse some of this in our homestyle menu and cooking. The family initially numbered 4 brothers; those brothers combine for 30 grandchildren who are proud to be a part of this rich history, which we hope will continue in the years to come! Kαλή oρεξη!
