Gwen R. Acker Wood, PhD, Esq.

Founder and President of Acker Wood IP Law, Dr. Acker Wood is a registered patent and trademark attorney with over 22 years of experience, with expertise in the areas of medical and biomechanical devices, mechanical devices, biotechnology, life science, nutritional science, and environmental science. Dr. Acker Wood has an M.S. in hematology and a Ph.D. in neuroscience from New York University, and a Juris Doctorate from Duquesne University School of Law. Prior to opening Acker Wood IP Law, Dr. Acker Wood worked for large law firms in Pennsylvania and Ohio. Before becoming a patent attorney, Dr. Acker Wood was a research scientist, awarded two postdoctoral scholarships to conduct research in the areas of neural science and psychoneuroimmunology. In addition, Dr. Acker Wood was an adjunct professor at the following institutions in the following disciplines: advanced pathophysiology, nutritional science, and environmental science at New York University, and advanced pathophysiology at Duquesne University. Anthony Handal, Esq.

is of counsel to the firm's patent, trademark and copyright litigation practice and a member of Handal & Morofsky, LLC. Mr. Handal has practiced Intellectual Property law for over 30 years, and is among the most respected litigators in the United States. He focuses his practice on trial and appellate work, primarily in the patent, trademark and copyright areas. Mr. Handal also has worked for many years in licensing and related corporate matters, as well as in the enforcement and procurement of intellectual property rights in the United States, Europe, and Asia. Prior to entering the legal field, he worked as an engineer under Project Apollo where he conceived the first digital data compression system. Mr. Handal has served as lead counsel in dozens of intellectual patent lawsuits with amounts at risk ranging up to $2 billion,representing such clients as ADM, JVC, Estee Lauder, Conair Corporation and many other such clients. He also has led lawsuits in the trademark and unfair competition areas for many companies, including Dayco, Clear Channel, Neiman Marcus and Target. He has worked before the U.S. Supreme Court, many Federal appellate and district courts, and overseas tribunals in both jury and bench trials. In his career, Mr. Handal has obtained over 700 patents for his clients. Mr. Handal has experience representing clients from numerous industries, including pharmaceuticals, medical devices, electronics, business methods, software, molecular biology, holography, apparel and retail. Mr. Handal has taught patent litigation strategy at the Patent Resources Group. He also has given seminars at many corporations, including Xerox, Pitney Bowes, J.P. Morgan Chase and General Electric. Mr. Handal holds an engineering degree from Polytechnic University (1969) and a Juris Doctorate from the Georgetown University Law Center (1972).
